In French we worked on our paragraphs, we will finish these up next week!
In Science we talked about our weather predictions and worked together to determine what we should look for when we're making weather predictions. Starting next week we will need to check the weather at night and track the forecast, Mme will send home a sheet for us to use. In Phys. Ed we played more basketball games. In Math me did another "Which one doesn't belong?" and we played Connect 4 to practice ordering decimals. We had Sphero club. We read in French or worked on incomplete work. In English we worked on our Onomatopeia pop art.

We edited our French paragraphs and once we were finished correcting our past tense verbs we did the rest of POMMES. If we finished that we could work on our good copy. In Science we continued our poster of what we know and what we want to learn about weather. We also went outside to observe today's weather and make predictions about the weather tomorrow. Note from Mme: Students are asked to check the weather for tomorrow (they can watch the news, check an app, or check online) and to make note of what predictions are made. We will discuss the observations made tomorrow in class. In Phys Ed we started playing basketball games, and we gave our teams names. The Orange Balls The Taco Balls The Albino Donkeys The Llamas The Platypuses The Sharkpedos In English we learned about Onomatopoeia, Mme read us The Book with No Pictures, and we started an Onomatopoeia art project. We read in French or worked on unfinished work. In math we did "Which one doesn't belong" with 4 decimal numbers. Can you figure out which one doesn't belong? Then we played a game to compare decimals with our clock buddies. We took turns drawing cards and choosing which position to put the number in, and tried to make a number bigger than our partners.
Hazel and Kaitlyn showed us some of their pixel art. Reminders: Social Studies is now due Tuesday April 23, instead of Thursday April 18th. Tomorrow is Coding Club for Grade 5s. Mme will return our Science Evaluations next week. We started off with 'Organisation' and 'Quoi de Neuf'. We talked about what we did on the weekend and got new billets.
In French we corrected the past tense verbs in our text about our Spring Break. We had music and we used the Ukulele, we listened to the music Friday song and we listened to some garage band presentations. In Science we started our new weather unit. We wrote down with our clock buddy parters what we already know about weather, what we would like to learn about weather, and at the end of our unit we will add what we have learned. After Science we did English and we learned about Alliterations. We read Fox in Socks, and then we got a list of alliterations from Mme to practice. Once we had looked over them we started to make our own alliterations. After lunch we were reading in French or we did independent work. After reading we did Math, First we did a number talk, Mme asked us which one doesn't belong out of 9,8 / 12,8 / 10, 85 and 18,7. Afterwards we learned and practiced how to compare decimals. We took a break in the middle of math to play four corners because we had been sitting for a while. We did Weebly. Reminders: Our Social Studies project is due Thursday. There is no school Friday April 19 or Monday April 22. Grade 4s are accepting donations for the Garage Sale. Students should be thinking about a song that has examples of at least three types of figurative language for our upcoming English project. This should be selected by Thursday. They have been asked to be mindful of the language and content of the song to ensure that it is appropriate for school. Today was School Spirit Day!
We had the laptops and we worked on our Social Studies project or played math games. We have no more time to work on this at school, but we can work on it at home next week! (It is due Thursday April 18th). We had an assembly, and Mira won 2nd place in the yearbook art competition! After the assembly we went outside for a recess break. We went to see our reading buddies. Mme Jenn read us a story about telling the truth and then we drew pictures that showed honesty and helped our buddies write sentences about ways that we can be honest. Mme gave us a decimal emoji to color (it was the blushing emoji) to practice identifying emojis. We did Weebly :) We started the day with English and we learned about idioms like:
- Two peas in a pod. - Don't poke the bear. - When pigs fly. - Don't cried over spilled milk. In Phys. Ed we played capture the flag outside. After Phys. Ed we worked on some math questions to practice the different ways to represent decimals. We had a yearbook meeting an the yearbooks will be delivered sometime during June. The winners of yearbook art completion will be announced tomorrow. Then we did reading and some of us worked on unfinished work. After reading we did Social Studies, if we were done we could read or do some math games. Then we did Weebly! We had a visit from Mme April's baby! Reminders: VAS School Spirit Day Tomorrow is the final day to work on our Social Studies Project in class. We started the day with Social Studies, we worked on the written part of our project in the computer lab. We learned about Hyperbole in English. In Music we finished our garage band projects and people who wanted to present got to present their garage band videos. In Phys. Ed we played bump to practice shooting and we practiced dribbling. At lunch we statrted our first week of coding club! We had our reading period or we could work on unfinished work. After reading we learned different ways to represent decimals. (La forme symbolique, en mots, en blocs de base 10, dans un tableau de valeur de position, et la forme développée). We made new desk groups. We finished with Weebly. Important Reminders:
Friday April 12th will be Varsity Spirit Day. Wear your VAS clothing or blue, red, and white to show your school spirit! We are finishing up our Social Studies project this week in school. Students will have until Thursday April 18 to hand it in if they need more time to work on it at home. The checklist for everything that needs to be completed has been shared with students via Google Drive. Today we kicked off our weather unit with a Weather Watch presentation. Scientist Louise came to our classroom and did demonstrations/experiments with us all morning!
We did Science until Lunch- Emily We learned how tornados work- Jack We learned about the weather and what air pressure means- Seth We did experiments to create air- Damien We learned that hot air goes to the top, cold air goes to the bottom- Kate Cold water (or air) stays more grouped together than hot air that spreads out- Mira We learned how hail is created- Emma We learned about clouds and hurricanes and how they are formed- Sarah We learned that hot air spreads out because heat is energy - Hillary At the end we talked a bit about global warming- Jack and how it's up to us to stop it! - Mira We learned about chinooks- India We learned how hot air moves faster than cold air- Joanah We made a cloud in a bottle - Austin After lunch we read, and some students finished up their chemistry evaluations. After reading we organized our desks and the classroom, and we could buy prizes from the prize bin! Then we did Weebly and went outside at the end of the day. In the morning we continued to work on our decimal/fraction pixel art. We talked a bit more about decimal place value.
We continued our garage band projects in English. If we finished we put our songs into iTunes. Some of us played soccer at recess. In English we learned about metaphors and we completed a simile/metaphor activity or Mme. We had our spring photos taken! We had a game of silent ball and we finished in 43:27s! We had 30 minutes of independent work or reading! In Social Studies we worked on our written part of our projects. Some people signed up for the coding club, that starts Wednesday April 10th. Reminders: We will be correcting the rough copy of our French paragraphs tomorrow. Science Evaluation - Monday. Tomorrow is Super Hero Day! In French we continued to work on our french paragraphs, our rough copy needs to be complete for tomorrow.
In English we learned about similes. In Phys Ed we had 5 volunteers from the Dinos team. Sasha and Jeffery worked with us on our basketball skills. In Math we continued to work on our decimal/fractions pictures. We read in French, or we could do some independent work. In Social Studies we continued to work on our project on the computers. Reminders: Science Evaluation Monday (Changed from Friday). Tomorrow is Spring Photos. Friday is Super Hero Day. We started our day with 'Quoi de neuf' and said how many billets we have.
For April fools day we all drew fish to tape to our shirts because in french April Fool's Day is le poisson d'avril. So we were "les poissons d'Avril". In french we are writing a paragraph about what we did for spring break. In Phys. Ed we finished our dance routines and started basketball. In Science we made posters that review what we have learned in our chemistry unit. This will help us prepare for our evaluation on Friday. We read in French today. Group 1 read with Mme April. After reading we reviewed our strategies for comparing fractions. We did 3 stations. Station A had a comparing and ordering fractions activity where we had to put groups of fractions in ascending order and explain which strategy we used. Station B we played Fractions Battle and Station C we had fractions task cards and we had to answer the questions on as many cards as we could. Reminders: Thursday April 4th - spring picture day. Friday April 5th is Superhero Day. Friday April 5th will be our Chemistry Evaluation. |
