We kicked off Carnaval week with an assembly this morning. Grade One students performed, representatives from F.E. Osbourne and Tuscany School stopped by, and Bonhomme Carnaval came to visit!
After recess we went to the gym for some Carnaval activities. We played hockey and had ski races. We read "Little Métis and the Métis Sash" by Deborah L. Delaronde. Throughout the story Little Métis tries to help various people, but him and his mischievous friend the wind keep getting into trouble. We learned about the important of the Métis Sash and identified Ojibway words in the text. After reading we discussed how the Métis sash was used and how it might be similar to the 'Ceinture Flechée that Bonhomme wears. Just before lunch we got our new billets (ask me about our billets and how the encourage us to speak French in class) and if everyone can keep at least 3 we will have a pajama day next week! After lunch a volunteer delivered croissants and hot chocolate, they were delicious! We had some time to do some last minute work on our Social Studies projects. The objects need to be ready, and at school tomorrow for our presentations. The written explanations/videos must be finished by next Tuesday February 19th. Each explanation must include - the name of the geographic region. - a description of the object (what did you make?) - at least one connection between the object and quality of life/culture of people in that region. - at one connection between the object and the physical geography of that region. After our working period Mme Harbinson came to discuss inclusivity with us. At the end of the day we finalized our selection of clock buddies, now we have twelve partners ready to go when we need to quickly get together to work on class activities.
