Math:
Number talks- sharing mental math strategies for multiplication and division. Review of the relationship between division and multiplication. Began exploring the following long division strategies.
We are currently looking at each strategy one at a time, and will continue to practice them throughout the rest of our unit. I encourage you to ask your child to show you the strategies we have done so far, and what their favourite is. Science: Introduction to our Classroom Chemistry unit. What is matter? How can we distinguish between solids, liquids and gases? What are different properties of matter? Social Studies: How is physical geography connected to the culture and quality of life of the people that live in the different geographic regions of Canada? Students are making connections between what they learned through their research project and what we have been discussing about culture/quality of life. They will be creating/identifying 3D objects that symbolise a chosen element of culture/quality of life, and will explain how that is connected to physical geography. English: SMART goals. Students have identified goals they would like to work towards achieving this year both in school and at home. They are currently working to ensure that their goals meet the criteria of SMART goals that we have been discussing in class. French: We have reviewed some of the work with verbs that students did prior to the break such as: - identifying verbs within a given text. - conjugating -er verbs in the present tense. Following a review of -ir verbs we will begin to look at how to conjugate -re verbs in the present tense before taking a look at how to conjugate verbs au passé composé. We also discussed adjectives, and brainstormed examples of adjectives that can be used to describe us for our Je Suis art project.
