We started our week by sharing a bit of what we did over the weekend, and by choosing new classroom jobs for the next two weeks.
In Social Studies students continued to work on their models. Those who have finished are starting to work on their explanations for each object. They have the option to either write an explanation, or to create a video of them explaining the connections between their objects and the physical geography and culture/quality of life of their region. The criteria for the explanations have been shared with the students via Google Drive. All models must be complete, and brought to school, for Monday February 4th. In Math students continued to practice their long division strategies. They are encouraged to practice all strategies as some are more efficient than others in certain situations. I have suggested that they become comfortable using the traditional algorithm and at least one other strategy. In Science we reviewed the two types of mixtures discussed last week, and students had to separate a heterogeneous mixture of solids based on the size of the individual components. They were given sieves with holes of varying sizes and had to figure out how to use them to separate the mixture of solids. In English students met with their Hatchet groups to share their tasks based on last week's reading. Students also had Music and Physical Education today. REMINDERS: Please return the skating permission forms to the school as soon as possible. If you are interested in volunteering please email me at [email protected] and I will send a form home. Please return the Letter of Intention (blue) that was sent home last week indicating which school your son or daughter will be attending in the fall.
