Students started the day working on their 'I am Poem' for Pink Shirt Day. Students wrote a poem from the perspective of either the Bully, Bullied, or Bystander. Students that finished early had the chance to design their own Pink T-Shirt that promoted Inclusivity over Bullying. We went to the computer lab to continue working on our Hatchet Scrapbook assignment. After recess we had a number talk. We looked at the following division expressions and considered how they were all related, and how we could use the first 4 to help solve the 5th. Students had Music and Phys. Ed.
After lunch we had a period of independent French reading. After reading we started a new Science experiment. Students were asked to predict what would happen to a Lifesaver if we put it in water. We discussed what it meant to make a hypothesis (and how it should include a reason to support what you predict). Students shared their hypotheses using the form "Je pense_________ parce que ...." Students were then challenged to think of a way that we could speed up the rate at which the lifesaver dissolves. They came up with the following ideas:
We discussed the difference between independent and controlled variables, and why it is important not to change many things at one time. In groups of 2 students were randomly assigned one of the above variables to test, and they began to plan out how they would conduct the experiment. After Science Yacoub shared a story that he wrote with the class. Reminders: Tomorrow is Crazy Hair Day. Some students still have not completed their Social Studies reading + table of similarities or differences. We will be discussing this task as a class tomorrow, so please ensure that it is completed this evening. Students designated to F.E. Osborne will go tomorrow with Mme Amanda, Mr Marshall and Mme MC. Mme April, Mme Guess and Mr André will remain at VAS to supervise students that are designated to other schools. Students will depart at 9:30 and will be at FEO until around 11:35. They will eat lunch upon their return to Varsity. If students have ordered Healthy Hunger Special Lunch it will be set aside for them to have when they arrive back to VAS.
