Sorry there was no update yesterday, we ran out of time at the end of the day! This morning we started our day skating with Room 20. There were sleds and other winter activities for students that did not skate. We can back inside and had a snack and warmed up before the rest of our day! English: We started to discuss our final assignment for Hatchet. We are going to be making an audition scrapbook to show our understanding of the book, and the main character (Brain). Our scrapbook needs to have a minimum of 4 illustrations of main events and accompanying captions. Each caption needs : a description of the event, a description of Brian's thoughts/feelings and qualities that are revealed in that event, and an explanation of why Brian reacted in the way that he did to that event. Today we talked difference between feelings and qualities to help prepare for the task. We learned that feelings tend to change more frequently, and are in response to what is happening. Qualities tend to be more long term, and can influence how we respond to events around us. We went to the gym with Room 20 after recess and played "Bombardeau", In Math we were put into 4 groups to work through different math stations. We will have a division assessment Tuesday February 26, and the stations are to help us prepare. Throughout the week we will all work though the following stations. Arithmagones- students were given products and had to find the missing factors. (check out an example here https://nrich.maths.org/7447) Math puzzles- students were given a puzzle and they needed to match the multiplication expression with the correct product. If they finished early they could create their own math puzzle with a provided template. Resolution de problèmes - Students were given 6 division word problems to work through. They need to use the traditional algorithm and at least one other strategy. Solve division with Mme - students worked in small group with Mme to practice using the traditional algorithm to complete long division problems. They were also able to solve using their preferred strategy to check their answer. After lunch students read independently in french for 30 minutes. In Science we continued to discuss mixtures with liquids. We have learned the following new terms: soluté (solute) solvant (solvent) dissoudre (dissolve) soluble insoluble Today we did an experiment to separate mixtures based on density. We mixed glycerine, coloured water, oil, and rubbing alcohol in a graduated cylinder to observe how they settled. Once they settled students used their observations to determine the order of the liquids from heaviest to lightest. Reminders: Friday February 22- Favourite Book Character Day (entire school) Monday February 25- PJ Day (Room 19 only) Tuesday February 26- Division Assessment.
