We started the day with Science, we finished our experiment to separate solutions and suspensions. We used the techniques of filtration and decantation today. We also set up our evaporation experiment, and will check on it over the next few days.
After Science we worked on Hatchet Scrapbook assignment. We will continue to work on it this week and next week, and it will be due Monday March 18th. In Phys. Ed we continued our dance unit, we added 2 new moves to our dance routine. After Phys. Ed we finished our math centers that we started yesterday. After lunch we had an independent reading period. Mme assigned our First Nations groups today, and we began researching our assigned group. Reminder: Please return signed and corrected math evaluations to Mme by tomorrow.

We started our day with English and worked on our Hatchet Scrapbook assignment. After English we did some Social Studies. We discussed what we will do for our next project. Tomorrow we are starting a research project on a specific First Nations group. We will be learning about their ways of life and traditions before the arrival of Europeans. We gave Mme our three first choices for which group we would like to learn more about, and tomorrow we will start our research. In Phys. Ed we started a new unit of dance with Ajay from Sound Kreations. After we worked with Ajay we did new math centres to help practice identifying and naming fractions. Our centres were: 1) Dominos 2) Fraction Memory/Go Fish 3) Independant Practice 4) Play Doh fractions We did two centres today, and we will do the other two tomorrow. After lunch we had a period of reading. We could read in English or French today.
In Science we continued our experiment to test to see if certain solids (solutes) would dissolve in water. We noted our observations, and discussed the difference between a solution and a suspension. For the second part of the experiment we discussed three ways to separate liquids and solids after they have been mixed. 1) Filtration 2) Evaporation 3) Decantation In our groups we picked 4 of our solutions/suspensions to separate, and had to discuss which method would work best for each one. Reminders: Return signed/corrected math evaluation by Thursday March 7. Twin Day is Friday March 8th Math club will be held next Tuesday, and will continue every second week. A note about homework: I have had some parents ask about homework expectations. Homework will be communicated here through Weebly. In the absence of assigned homework your child should be reading ~20 minutes in French each night. We started our day by picking new classroom jobs, and getting new billets to start the week. We had time to work on our Hatchet Scrapbook assignment in the computer lab. We had music before recess. After recess we started our new math unit, we are learning about fractions. Today we discussed: What is a fraction? How do we write fractions? (numerator/denominator) What are different ways to represent fractions?
For example, a) is une moitié(half) or 1/2, c) is deux tières (two thirds) or 2/3
After math we took a movement break and played a game of silent ball (or silent dice, because Mme didn't have a ball). Before lunch we discussed some of the differences and similarities that we identified in the text we read about First Nations groups before the arrival of europeans. After lunch we had 30 minutes to read. We got to choose to read in English or French today. After reading we discussed our findings from our Lifesaver experiment last week, Today we started a new experiment. We are testing different solids to see if they will dissolve in water. Today we tested...
At the end of the day Mme handed back our division evaluations. We need to make any corrections needed, and bring it back signed by a parent by Thursday March 7. |
